Village Voice, Election Issue

Wow. I said I’d never do it, and I did it. I got too busy to blog. Oh the shame and guilt. I beg the internet itself for forgiveness. Okay, all better now. Let’s move on, shall we? :-)

The Village Voice commissioned these illustrations for a collection of essays about the madness of this election season. They were written by a wide variety of contributors including comedians, performers, authors, etc. Here’s the opening spread:

And this illo appeared on the following page:

As I worked on the sketches for the opening spread, I recognized a Laugh-In/Smothers Brothers vibe, which I had never before considered an influence. I guess the subconscious equation was: pop culture+politics+humor (in short bites) = Laugh-in! (Wait, I didn’t mean “Laugh” minus “in”. Communicating through math is tricky…)

Today’s Lesson: Parents, beware of what your creative children watch on TV. The effects are permanent!

Thanks Again Ivy, espesh for that awesomely ginourmous credit!
